I have another question for my colleagues. In the late 1960's, early 1970's two straight deck Essex class carriers were scrapped in Baltimore. The location of the scrapping was in Curtis Bay. I watched them taken apart for months. We had an excellent, though saddening view from the front of our church overlooking the "Bay". I know for certain one was the Tarawa, (about 1968-69) but for the life of me I can't positively identify the second. Was hoping someone could confirm. The second was around 1970. I'm thinking it may have been Leyte.
