jI have HMS York and she had the CIWS (Phalanx) until the end. I watched a video of her being towed away. So sad. Previous Message
Because I recently picked up Dragon 1/700 3 in 1 Type 42 kit made me remember what I had heard about this conversion on the batch 3 and didnt
have alot of type 42 references to work with so
reckoned I'd ask.

Not sure that the plan was to replace the area air defence capabilty (Seadart) with a point defence one (Seawolf). At one stage, Edinburgh was refitted as Simon has described, and the twin GAM-A03 30mm mountings abreast the funnel were retained; she later carried the standard class fit, again as Simon wrote. A photo in the single-Phalanx configuration is at https://twitter.com/NavyLookout/status/854755395453243393/photo/1 and another is currently on ebay at https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283954923437 Previous Message
Hi Craig,
It was Edinburgh. The bow had new breakwaters fitted, and a visor, which made for clear visual differences versus the three others.
The project involved some changes to weapons locations for a period of time. The two Phalanx units were removed from their locations abreast the funnel. For a period a single Phalanx was sited on the foredeck between the gun and the SeaDart launcher - both of these systems were retained. The Phalanx units were eventually restored to their usual locations but the modified bow visor and breakwaters remained in place. This meant the ship once again had the class standard weapons fit which remained until the ship left service.
Simon
