Re: USS Quincy 1/700 Trumpeter Model
Thanks all - problem solved! The Tuscaloosa kit I have is actually the Quincy so while not perfect the pair (Quincy and Vincennes) can be built from existing kits I have. No need buy another Tuscaloosa kit. I will look at the San Francisco and see if I can match her to a Tuscaloosa configuration without major surgery.
Actually, the QUINCY kit and VINCENNES kits are close, but both have significant errors. The positions of A and B turrets are wrong and do not reflect their actual locations. These turrets were moved back and the superstructure on that level was shortened. In addition, the bridge superstructure on VINCENNES differed from QUINCY.
There are other differences, but Trumpeter's biggest mistake was the TUSCALOOSA kit. That kit was a duplicate of the QUINCY kit. In reality, the TUSCALOOSA should resemble the 1942 SAN FRANCISCO kit. The superstructure and gun positions are most like the SAN FRANCISCO. If you want a TUSCALOOSA, start with a SAN FRANCISCO and photos to make the needed changes.
No two NEW ORLEANS Class cruises were exactly alike.
If you have all the other models, you could check the Vincennes kit. Quincy & Vincennes had the forward turret moved back some & the second turret raised a bit compared with the other ships.
Is the Quincy kit an exact duplicate of another Trumpeter New Orleans kit? I can rule out only the San Francisco '44 for obvious reasons.
Or: What are the sprue letter id's of the Quincy model parts - if you have the kit but do not know if it is a duplicate? (I have all the other NO kits except the Quincy).
Or: If anyone can post the Quincy Instructions that would be another option. Scalemates does not have them on their site.
FYI The Pit Road kits are reboxed Trumpeter kits.
