The U.S. ship was a "Sellers" class DDG, the exterior shots of Denzel landing from a helicopter on board was a WW2 British (Type 15) conversion of DDs the "Emergncy" classes: O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, C, W, V, Z classes. Ships from these classes were the ones modernized.
A British warship is used for the interior/exterior scenes. The model ship scenes appears as American type. Cannot tell which not my area. 1954's Caine Mutiny appeared to me more critical of the US Navy than Bedford Incident which is from 1965.
