FYI, some of these foams are biodegradable and made from starch. Water will dissolve them.

Be sure to test your foam with each kind of paint. You don’t want it to melt onto your work.

Has anyone ever tried using very small-celled spongy packing foam to mask complex surfaces for painting? For instance, using a razor straight-edged piece of foam over a complex hull form with bulges, hull plating, rub strakes, etc. I suspect it might be easier than using masking tape.

Please advise.
