Re: Intentional? David, are your saying / implying that the treaty......
YES,even Chamberlain realised the ongoing threat and that at that time Britain had under armed forces that needed severe modernising and enlarging!
........that Chamberlain made with dear Adolf, the infamous 'peace in our time' was intentionally made so as " ..... to allow the UK at least to get on a war footing, and IT ALLOWED AMERICA......"? Surely not intentionally for those reasons?, (although the short gap before war started did allow a little breating space).
READ A GOOD HISTORY BOOK! it was a time wasting treaty to allow the UK at least to get on a war footing, and IT ALLOWED AMERICA TO START HEADING TO AN EFFECTIVE FORCE FROM A MINIMUM WW1 STANDING!
...and too many people haven't learned (or choosing to ignore) England's and France's decision in 1938 to let nice Mr. Hitler have his way with Czechoslovakia, and maybe he'll be satisfied. That didn't turn out so well!
Last night I tested my old civil defense geiger counter and charged the battery in my Russian made dosimeter. Too many people in power pushing for war with Russia. They will get their war but my loved ones (and millions of non combatants) will face the consequences.
People in government generally don't read. They watch TV and spend their time reinforcing narratives.
I wonder if anyone in our government read the "Guns of August"
