Many years ago built the Airfix De Havilland Beaver for a neighbor who was a bush pilot for the Ontario Department of Lands and Forests. The kit had the radial engine even though he was flying a turbo Beaver at the time. I painted it in the colours of his aircraft and scavenged decals to get the call letters correct. I was a kid but it sure made me feel good to see that kit on a shelf in his recroom many years later.

USS Helena CL-50 for plank owner and later shipped aboard CL-81 Houston. It was his oral testimony which righted history that Tug Pawnee downed attacking 2nd wave of Japanese aircraft and not Houston. He said of the crew of the Pawnee “toughest sailors he ever met, good shots and knew their job”.
Never finished a diorama of a NAM Jolly Green rescue with Skyraiders and C-130 refueler for Jolly Green pilot.
Sadly all gone but I did so enjoy the smiles and saw their tears.
Oh and I met Halsey’s great grand daughter in a animal rescue group. Said this “My grand father was in the Navy maybe you knew him? He did some things in the Navy. I replied “No I did not know him, and yes he did a few things in the Navy”. Previous Message
I was just wondering what kits, and why. I've done it three times-
BWN USS Sturgeon as USS Pintado, for my best friend, who was a bubblehead aboard her,
Revell USS Montrose as USS Bosque, for my wife's uncle, who was a radioman aboard Bosque during WW2 and witnessed the surrender ceremonies at Tokyo Bay,
and Arii USS Midway, for my uncle, who served aboard her during Viet Nam (I also served briefly aboard Midway, but after he did).
Sadly, the Midway model was lost during the Camp Wildfire in 2018, which destroyed his home and most of the town of Paradise, where my uncle had retired.
