At the beginning of the 1930s, the Navy was still using long-oil red primer on metal, with Aircraft Gray on metal surfaces, aluminized enamel on babric and wood surfaces, and clear dope on fabric (with a small possibility of aluminized enamel on the inside of fabric).
By 1939, most cockpits were Yellow-Green, Bronze Greeen, or (in a few cases) Dull Dark Green.
