Re: Question for ship drivers / navigators
Not sure exactly how your question reads, but here is how I would interpret that.
Point Able bears 120 (ESE)from Rennell island, 85 miles away, and Point Baker bears 146 (SE) from Henderson Field, 166 miles away. The ESE and SE are approximate; I never learned to speak that language.
The Navigator marks those two points on the chart and we are supposed to drive back and forth between the two points.
Looking through war diaries and I want to make sure I "translate" this right:
"At sea, operating between Point Able, 120° 85 miles from Rennell Island, and Point Baker, 146° 166 miles from Henderson Field, Guadalcanal."
For reference this is Suwannee just before the Battle of Rennell Island during which CA-29 Chicago was lost.
Would these radians be from the ship to the points listed, or their angle from those locations?
