Should be NO comparison: the Elissa, the Strand, Moody Gardens, Lone Star Flight Museum, more Fish than you ever possibly eat -YAY Gaidos, beautiful gray sand beaches-some of which you can drink on, most of which you can't (more family friendly), Bishop House and others, lots of Portuguese Man'o War-been there got the hat and the t-shirt. Crime rate not as good as I thought 88, but better than Dallas 93, or Beaumont 99-meaning that 99% of the cities in the US are safer than Beaumont. I travel alot of the Southwest, and in 46 years there are a few places that I will not stay overnight and this is one. Previous Message
According to Channel 12 in Beaumont, officials are in discussions to put the USS Texas along the Neches River. Local officials believe that locating the ship along the I-10 corridor will help drive visits to other attractions in the area.
Estimates to bring the ship to Beaumont begin at 5 and a quarter million dollars and do not include necessary infrastructure including docking and visitor parking. Hey, let the State Parks fund that!
Southeast Texas couldn't keep a destroyer in Orange, where they built them. I'm not convinced that, while Galveston is at the end of the highway, it wouldn't be a better location with more annual visitors. That or dredge the Trinity River and take her to Dallas
