ISW makes a 1/350 USS South Dakota ACR-9, Pennsylvania class. I am currently working on one in fact have been working on it for several years; just picked it back up recently.
Have had to do some scratch building and modifications (added the split bilges to it a couple of weeks ago). It will not be a faithful reproduction of the original but it'll be good enough for me. Primed the hull and other parts yesterday. Gotta dig out the white & buff paint colours I had set aside for it way back when. Previous Message
Any company make a 1/700 ACR 5 USS West Virginia or her sister ships in the ARC Pennsylvania Class? In 1917 she was renamed the USS Huntington. My great uncle (and namesake) was her captain from 07/22/1916 - 08/06/1917.
During his time as her commanding officer she not only changed her name but also conducted early experiments with launching and retrieving balloons aboard ship. later an experimental catapult was added and tested. At one point the Martin Thomas seaplane caught fire while on board. She later catapulted a Curtiss "F" type flying boat while underway. All this may have catapulted his career as he became the commandant of the Panama Canal when the US entered WWI to 1920.
