Thanks Rick. I remember she only had the one refit after the Midway battle at Pearl. Guessing this kit is more in line with the Battle of Santa Cruz minus the 1.1" gun on the bow. Again thanks.
Mk 44 directors would have been installed at the time USS HORNET was completed. She didn't have an overhaul after July 1942, when Mk 51 directors became available, that would have allowed for installation onboard USS HORNET.
The 1.1" guns had one director per each gun. In the Trumpeter 1/350 kit, these are represented by what looks like Mk.51 directors. In all of the pictures I have looked at, the close ups are when she was in Norfolk prior to going to the Pacific. In these pictures the directors are covered in canvas so the director is not visible, but the top of the canvas stretches across the top looking to wide to be a Mk.51. These look to be the Mk.44. My question is: what director did Hornet have for the 1.1" guns in the battle of Midway... the Mk.44 or the Mk.51?
