Not long ago somebody posted a picture of Hornet in 5-0 markings
Can not be precise about pigment for that refer to Alan Raven. The wartime Hornet eventually had the Doolittle Raider markings painted out and the photo showed very worn dash lines (not skid marks) How far they extended on the deck is unknown for the photo was aft end of flight deck. But if I was doing a late 1942 Hornet I would do the entire flight deck. Who is to argue with you? As others have already pointed out that is Enterprise. She carried those dash marks in one pigment or another up to Nov 42 and if I am not mistaken she carried visible dash marks on flight deck after her return from overhaul stateside.
Here are two stills of Hornet's center elevator and aft flight deck. It's interesting that the elevator has a red X on it.
Did all of the elevators have this red X at that time? Also, concerning the (yellow?) dashed lines on the sides, are there three digit numbers in-between the dashes? If so, what do the numbers mean?
