NavSource has a brief entry of this ship with picture. It is T-AK-5049. T-AK-5050 is likely a sister ship. What is more interesting, is the large container assembly aft of the bridge area.
I spent last week on vacation on the Outer Banks, NC, and observed the ship below under tow about 5 miles offshore for a couple of days. Obviously not in a hurry to get anywhere, possibly practicing controlling the ship under tow (just a guess).
A couple days later we passed right over it (and the tugboat!) while flying out of the Norfolk Airport and I snapped the photo below.
Hoping someone here may be able to ID, or comment on whether/how the Navy trains for command under tow.
