We have a few that frequent this site. My guess is they will chime in.
Remember John DeLorean and that cocaine trial of the 80s?
If the government puts together a sting then how do you get a conviction? It's extremely close or over the line of entrapment.
I'm not defending these two people. I'm going after the rule-of-law where the government establishes a criminal enterprise and then invites people to the enterprise. Legally, it would be like a law enforcement agency establishing a street gang, giving immunity to the officers, and then prosecuting people the officers recruit into the gang. Basically, if it was NOT for the government then the criminal organization would have never been established in the first place. Legally, the government officials who formed the gang are a RICO entity.
Not defending these people, my guess is it will be quietly plea bargained away. An appeal court needs to squash this sort of government activity.
