Certainly a smaller area that the "ocean". The collision was reported to be in the South China Sea, and my map tells me that the South China Sea is bordered by the Spratley Islands to the south. But no telling exactly where in the South China Sea the collision happened.
I wonder where our sub was in the "Ocean" in relation to those 'man-made islands'
Although, I'm pretty sure ....... "That's Classified.....I 'ave to kill you." - Top Gun (Maverick)
Foundations of another man made island maybe? They seem determined to build as many of those as they can 'get away with'.
while on a ship or sub?? I mean have any of you experience your ship/sub hitting something large ( hopefully not enough to sink ya ), but enough to file a report, or seen the damage when inport, OR you had to dry-dock??
Just saw a report of USS CONNECTICUT SSN-type (SEAWOLF-class [??]) hitting an underwater object. I still remember when I was a young 'sea-squirt' hearing about a KNOX-class FF hitting or getting Hit by a "sea creature" (damaged the sonar dome).
I mention ships and subs, because if an A/C hit somethin' its curtains!!
Thanks for your time.
