Well, that would explain it!
I remember reading that the JFK's last major overhaul was performed at the old Philadelphia Naval Ship Yard right after a BRAC commission voted to close it.
According to the article (I wish I could remember the source), the poorly motivated work force performed less than stellar work and she was never the same afterwards.
I used to work with a lady that served on JFK in the late 90s during her Navy hitch.
Her words were, "the Kennedy was a mess! Just falling apart" I found that interesting for an active, front line carrier to be a such a "mess". But I suppose after 30 years of service.....
Leads me to wonder what it would have taken to bring her up to museum quality standards.
Just read that both ships have just been sold for scrapping, I could have sworn that I had read somewhere that one of them was donated as a museum, guess not.
