Re: Models of USS St. Paul (CA-73) on USS Massachusetts
The brass model is a 1/48 scale waterline model used for radio and radar testing. The model would be placed on an outdoor turntable and emitters would be placed on it to figure out the best placement for antennas, etc.
This USS Saint Paul display used to be on the USS Salem until there was some kind of petty disagreement between whomever was in charge of the St. Paul Association and the then-boss of the Salem.
Unfortunately, a beautiful world class display was packed up and moved to the Massachusetts.
On the museum ship USS Massachusetts , two large-scale models of the heavy cruiser USS St. Paul are exhibited:
Battleship Cove: models of the heavy cruiser USS St. Paul
One model depicts an early fit, one a late fit with the modified bridge and foremast. Model Monkey offers conversion parts for the later.
