I did have that set. It came somewhat later as I was in late high school. I saw the kit only once, the time I bought it. It had a very unusual box, being large in length and width but only about 1.5 in. thick to accommodate the vacuformed turquoise "sea base". I suspect that the box was difficult for store owners to deal with and that might have decreased its sales. The ships were quite nice, but the missile launchers were grossly overscale. More play value for wargamers than for modelers.
I built all of the Renwal kits in the sixties when I was in late grade and early high school. I regarded them as much better than the early Revell kits (Missouri thru FDR.) and a bit better than the later Revell kits (Forrestal and later). I didn't do any research or measurements, but I certainly wished they had done more kits.
