Re: Tamiya ' s 1/ 700 USS Bogue ; opinions ?
Tamiya's Bogue is a re-box of Skywave's 1980s "D-24 Tracker" and "AVG-9 Bogue" kits (a product of their time!), with a different air group. One member of the class which accompanied Capt Johnnie Walker's 2nd Support Group (2SG) was HMS Tracker, which operated in company with 2SG in October 1943, supporting convoys HX262, HX263 and ON209. Note that her air group comprised Swordfish and Seafire aircraft; neither type is provided in any of the boxings! It's not a bad kit, but new 20mm Oerlikons, 40mm Bofors, Bofors directors and photo-etch to replace plastic masts and radars are recommended.
Incidentally, Walker was promoted to Captain RN in 1942, before 2SG was formed. (Formally the Group was entlitled "2nd Escort Group".)
With all this good news about USS Sangamon in 1 / 700
.. let us remember a nice little kit I have not yet finished . . .
Do our learned brothers and sisters have any comments on this Last-Century jewel ?
How many different war-time ships can we build from it ?
Am I gullible, but do tell me how many faults are there inside the BOGUE box ?
I must find a colour scheme for one of the class which fought with CDR. Walker's Second Support Group, which sank so many u-boats ...
