No Problem. Take care and have a great day!
It posted under the wrong post. It was meant to go under the main post. Sorry for the confusion.
Hello sir. I don't believe I've ever taken issue with you about anything you might have posted. Maybe I wasn't clear about my intent here. With all of the talk about image colorization I've seen here and in other forums in the past I thought I'd do a little experiment. I uploaded the clearest photo I could find of California at Pearl out of curiosity more than anything else to see what would happen. The result was just what you said, she looked to be painted in 5D and 5L. I think we are both on the same side of the fence. I'm sorry if there was any misunderstanding here.
Both were in Ms-1 with 5-D and 5-L and before you start I have always said these two were in those colors. They both use the specified, Mare Island manufactured 5-D that is matte and almost black. The article posted below says the same thing.
I uploaded a photo of Cali dated 9 April, 1942 posted on Navsource by Tracy White of her being pulled into drydock to a couple image colorization sites online. Their take was it looks like she was in 5D when this photo was taken. Like I say, this was just for fun to see what would happen and it is by no means definitive proof of anything. Well, maybe that I have too much time on my hands?
Lots of information out there WRT CALIFORNIA hull coating. Looking for guidance for her color in DEC 1941.
