Thanks for the photo. Looking at it, I'm about convinced the correct blue color is 5-N afterall. We know Santee is weathered considerable in this photo, as indicated by the areas of yellow primer showing thru on the hull. 5-N was known to fade & chalk quickly, and those blue areas sure look faded & chalked.
So I'll have to adjust my thinking on my Chicopee color sheet. The photos I have are of her freshly painted, so the 5-N is going to be one of the darker shades of grey.
Much Obliged, David
The is a photo of SANTEE CVE-29 wearing what is now identified as Ms17. I always thought this old color photo showed her in Ms32. https://www.navsource.org/archives/03/0302920.jpg
So I see where Wikipedia & the Floating Drydock book both say 5-N, but that's very dark. I'm under the impression MS 17 was a Light Scheme, like Western Approaches, so it seems a lighter blue is wanted.
Does anyone have firm info one way or the other they'd be willing to share?
This is for the USS Chicopee kit, I have good photos for the Dazzle Pattern, (Many Thanks A. D. Baker III & Rick E Davis) but they're black & white, so which color will be which???
