Re: USS Langley AV-3
I recently finished reading the hardcover edition. If you are interested in it, drop me a line at martinjquinn at aol dot com
I've been waiting forever for that book to come out in paperback...
According to William Bartsch's very authoritative Every Day A Nightmare , p.246, about the USAAF's defense of Australia and Java in 1942, the P-40's were fully assembled and towed tail first through Perth. When the trees lining the suburban road blocked the wings, they waited until midnight and cut down the trees.
They were loaded by slings, 27 P-40's on the cut down flight deck and five on the quarterdeck with barrels of gasoline.
No additional pictures of the Langley in it.
