Good eye. Itís the antenna for the SPQ-9B radar.
I did not realize that the SPS-48 is inside the AEM/S assembly. So what is the flat, roughly square shaped panel on top of the forward mast. I haven't been able to find a picture or diagram that identifies it. I thought it was the SPS-48.
Thats what I get for letting the Army toss me out the back end of a C-130 and bounce off the ground .
I am building the 1/350 USS New York (LPD-21) and am wondering if there are any significant visual differences, in 1/350 scale, among the various incarnations of the SPS-48 radar antenna? I am hoping to use the GMM Modern USN set.
For those of you wondering the fit and finish of the Gallery kit is excellent so far. The well deck and hangar beg for serious detailing.
Not my skill level yet but there is always the Wasp!
