Remember my uncle, Sgt John Murphy of the 294th Combat Engineers. He had the Susan B Anthony sunk out from underneath him off Utah. He landed on Utah today, June 7 and went to serve with the Engineers until he was killed in the Hurtgen Forest November 3. To say loved ones never forget, his oldest sister died just this spring and she spoke of her beautiful brother till the day she died.
Bless that generation and the ones who mourned their loss.
Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen of The Allied Expeditionary Force!
You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you.The hope and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you.
Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle-hardened. He will fight savagely.
I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full Victory.
Good luck! And let us beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.
