Hi George, thank you for sharing these photographs.
This is a good thread Moe! From time to time I'd like to do a "conversion" of a Cleveland hull into one of these CLG variants. Trust your kit is going well.
These are GREAT pics!!! And even though 'Da Rock' is a bit similar to GALVESTON there are some Minor differences, for one LITTLE ROCK is a Flag ship, CLG-3 never was converted that way.
But the Interior pix are the ones I really liked.... especially the 'Navy Coffee' signage. I'm going to have to print that up and place it over my coffee mess @ home!!! ( I LOVE it )
Seeing that 'warhead handling' cmpt takes me to where I was researching GALVESTON Talos system. A TRULY Remarkable, Incredibly COMPLEX system and area. I guess it must be in the 'hand of God' to make sure every part of that missile handling room was done well and putting missiles together.
I Was hoping to see how they strike-down those un-assembled missiles when they came onboard!!!!!
And this "Panograph" a type of 'kingpost' that brought the missiles onboard and then assisted in striking them down below is missing on this ship I would have love to see one 'In Action'
Again, Thanks for the pics....these are Great!!
OH...almost forgot the signage for Petty Officer First Class ... that one I need to read a bit more carefully... but that was what my last rank was before exiting the NAVY!!! Didn't make Chief,,but I guess they needed Indians .... That's me!!
I took that one about a decade ago when visiting the museum ships in Buffalo. Here are the rest of the pictures I took back then.
There's definitely a lot of similarity in the aft end of Little Rock and Galveston. Here's hoping the "similar parts" can help you out. I'm sure you can figure out what's usable or not. Hope they helps.
'George in CO'....thanks, I just couldn't see that in my photo.
HEY!! This is a Nice pict of LITTLE ROCK, and even though it is not GALVESTON, there are Some similarities to 'Da Rock' ship.... do you have any more pics???
Thanks for sharing your picture.
It looks to me like you get there via a catwalk from (below?) the SPS-30 platform. At least that's how I interpret
this picture of USS LITTLE ROCK.
As I'm building Niko's 1/700 USS GALVESTON, I'm now working o the aft superstructure where she had her radar gear for the Talos missile system. (NOTE: THAT is an Incredible piece of hardware, who ever had that on their ships..... I wish I had spoken/text you for information!!)
But if you look at this image, next to the SPS-30 radar platform and set, to the right there is a tower for the AN/SPW-2 radar guidance ( I assume that it 'guides' the Talos -> target ). And below that moving further right, is the AN/SPG-49 radar "tracker"..... ( I hope I'm getting that right ).
So my question is ........ HOW do you get up that tower????!!! (between the SPS-30 and SPG-49)
If you are doing PMS on that radar set (SPW-2), do you go up INSIDE?? ( I don't see a hatch on that little circular crawlway) and there is NO Ladder there???
Thanks for your time.
