Re: Reaction and....
'Have heard numbers exceeding 250,000 Chinese dead in J "reprisal" for the Raid. More than a quarter million people. How many more people outside China suffered and died, because of second-hand outrage and anger, at the hands of recent conquerors?
Raiders who became POWs suffered horrific torture, some were executed.
Eternal honour and thanks to all who perished and suffered in the name of freedom in that immortal, fateful time.
If the "world" does not...chooses not...to remember and honour them, we
still can. For as long as we can.
Taylor, "The Generalissimo", p. 209:
"Chiang sent an angry message to Marshall reporting that in reprisal, Japanese troops attacked the coastal areas of China where locals had rescued the Americans fliers. "The Japanese", Chiang said, "slaughtered every man, woman and child in these areas - let me repeat, every man, woman and child"."
Let's remember them, too.
Today is the 79th anniversary of the B-25 bombers raid from the carrier Hornet on Japan.Bet most of those men are dead now.
