If you're talking about Col. Bonner Fellers, I've read that he was sent home in short order after the problem was discovered.
I've read different things about how the problem was discovered, but that's another subject.

he was not sent home he was given access to false info which he duly transmitted to washington using the broken code, and the real plans were kept away from him till the new deliberately delayed new codes were implemented! Previous Message
were better than believed at the time or since.
One of their best sources was the American Military in Cairo which gave excellent information about British intentions in North Africa until the US code was changed and persons sent back home
They also read the Anglo-American Convoy data leading to many sinkings.
These errors were first resolved in 1943.
