Re: Fuel consumption figures for BBs
I find it interesting that everyone is listing fuel consumption by tons. As a former Fuel Control Storekeeper aboard a fleet oiler fuel was always measured by U.S. Barrel not tonnage. I do remember refueling carriers in the Med 1964/65 and they were alongside for 6-8 hours while taking black oil (NSFO) and light fuels. I was the guy who calculated amount of fuel transferred and billed to ships. Always fuel like black oil was recalculated to 60 deg F, but to pump it we hade to heat it to above 90deg F. NSFO(Navy Special Fuel Oil) was Black oil and you did not want to get it on your clothing.
Are there books/articles with comparison of main propulsion plants efficiencies say South Dakota vs. Bismarck vs. KGV vs. Richelieu at various speeds?
