in additon to length Neosho class had twin screws, a 5"gun mount on bow and stern and 6-3"50 twin mounts. As built 1954 Neosho lead ship was designed to support Forrestal class carrier 20kts!. This was my first duty station out of A school. The5" mounts bow & stern and 2-3"50 mountes were later removed and a helo platform was added to the stern. We had CH-34 helo on my first med deployment(1964-5). Later additional berthing and flag space were added to stern deck house. Neosho class were COMSERVFORCE Flag ships when deployed. I have a Navy vet friend who's looking to build models of the two ships he served on one of them being the USS Mississinewa AO 144, on the Neosho Class, they started building in the 1950s.
Though no kit exists of this class fleet oiler, I was thinking that maybe another tanker kit in 1/350th scale could be modified to get it as close as possible. so besides the drawings, I'm looking for recommendations on tanker kits in 1/350th scale.
His other boat was an MSO Mine Sweeper and the L'Arsenal kit should fill the bill for that.
