An experiment was tried on battleship Wisconsin attempting to stop he from full speed in the shortest distance possible. The screws were reversed to full astern, while at the same time the her twin rudders were both turned inward towards the keel. The ship was stopped in less than her length. It was referred to as a "barn door" stop, and was never tried again as it threw the rudders out of alignment.
