Per the Mariners' Museum (where I volunteer), there are no photos showing the configuration for the funnel configuration nor any plans or photos showing the two raised air intakes abaft the funnel, while the armored conning position at the bow was not nearly as high as is shown on the model in the photo.Mariners' and NOAA's facility at the Museum don't have any documentation for these features, although the model should show the low ring around the base of the turret that was added to lessen the amount of water that could get into the hull between the deck and the turret. Also, the addition of a bulwark too the turret was attached on the inboard side of the turret top, which is not how it is depicted in the model. i would be very interested in learning where the designer of the kit got the information about the configuration shown on the model, which appears to be an effort to show the ship's configuration after her post-battle refit at the Washington Navy Yard and not as she appeared during the famed battle with the C.S.S. Virginia.
