Due to the reason for the cold, I'd do what you could to prepare for this happening every couple of years. The polar vortex is no longer stable above the arctic circle due to warm water and less ice there. This isn't meant as a political statement, its just the scientific fact of why you are having cold weather where you are. We've dealt with it in Chicago now for over ten years, of and on, and now its slipping farther to the south as the water in the arctic is warmer. Previous Message
We are freezing down here - our homes are not made for a 100-year winter storm. No one here has snowtires or knows how to drive in it. Power and water intermittently on and off. I am luckier than most - I have a gas stove and fireplace, so I can keep a little warmth going. My model bench sits beside a large window, so I can paint a little during the day. Lot of hours to wait until it thaws.....
