I was stationed at McGuire at the time. We typically deployed a C-141 3-ship every week to Pope / Ft Bragg every week for joint training with the 822d. We were doing mission planning the day prior to departure when the news broke about the Iraqi invasion. We departed the next day and did the first day of training then on the second day the word came down that we were on 3-hour alert indefinatly and that every rule in the book was cancelled. We were thinking "Oh bleep, we're gonna go do this for real". But they shuffled crewmembers and we flew out the 82nd rather than airdropping them.
Retired the end of the year after (Dec 1991) after 2nd passover for LtCol.
