Which Aoshima Ark Royal are you referring to? Aoshima has released several. I have #010181 / WL 714 (new tool from 2015) and it's not that bad! Although, like most 1/700 ships, it would benefit from AM!

I have an unbuilt old Revell 1/720 kit of HMS Ark Royal but I see that Aoshima and Trumpeter now produce versions. Which option would people recommend? I may as well make the Revell anyway.
I'd go with Alan's recommendation. While I don't have the Trumpeter kit, I would describe the Aoshima kit as unimpressive with some fit issues around the flight deck and pretty crappy weapons. I would try something different before building the Aoshima kit again.
