Yes, 'also remember the 12 Renwal 1/1200 ships in one box and the "sea" base, tho did not own one of those kits. 'Also in Illinois, John.
Built a bunch of those Renwal 6-packs (one centered on the CV and one on the BB) and some of the AKs were converted to CVEs, others experimented with in camo and parts swapping to make "what ifs" tho that concept was not yet invented.
The Renwal 1/1200s were crude, but great fun in their day and fond memories remain of building gobs of them and the Pyro individual box kits. (The Pyro ones seemed much nicer)
'Remember attending a wargame in a HS gym, where the players used these and tried to be at something like scale distances.
That experience resulted in a youthful "AHA!" moment of understanding the challenges of long-range naval gunfire, especially at moving targets.

In 1959 or 1960 I found a kit with all of these models along with a turquoise vacuformed "sea" base with indentations for all of the ships. I have never seen this kit since, either in a store or any mention of it in print or in old kit dealer websites. It must have had a very limited distribution. The ships are quite crude with the masts, guns and details like the missiles being grossly overscale. Previous Message

I built the North Carolina and Washington a couple of times. Great kit for that era, except for helicopter instead of float planes.
