Wisconsin name still in use.
Berthed at Norfolk, VA; to become a museum-in-reserve,with the weather decks open to the public, but the ship still maintained in reserve and owned by the Navy. http://www.navsource.org/archives/01/64a.htm
Currently the navy has 47 ships using state names
Leaving with 3 names left.Wisconsin,South Carolina and Kansas. Perhaps this maybe the reason for the change. Craig
I missed the announcement when it was made on 10/13/20. This is welcome reversion to the traditional naming convention. Naming submarines after States never made sense given the limited number of States. I don't like the current status where naming of a ship is left to the whim of a single person, even if that person is the Secretary of the Navy.
In case others missed it, the name chosen is USS Barb.
