Thank you, Ollie.
The specification for ML type gives basic data for Standard as follows:
HP - 220
Revolutions - 450 per minute
Cylinders - 8 in number, 10" bore, 11" stroke
Crankcase - open
Crankshaft - 8.7/8" dia., 4 cranks set at 120 deg
Valves inlet - automatic
Valves exhaust - mechanically operated, water cooled
Starting - compressed air
Ignition - low tension magneto and battery
Reversing - sliding cam shaft
Air compressor - one on each main engine
Carburettor - automatic multiple jet type
Lighting - electric light dynamo and storage batteries
I suppose the engines used in SC type were the same.
Hope this will help you.
Can anyone here tell me, either an online source or a book that would give me 1nformation about the Standard 220-hp engines used in the Elco 80-foot MLs built for the RN, and in the 110-ft SC-1 Class SCs of WWI?
