having been there, as you sail in there is NOTHING VISIBLE , then suddenly you are looking into the face of the guns at literally a stones throw away!if they had missed it would have been more amazing, then as you pass the guns a small bay appears and that is where the torpedoes were based! sitting duck is an understatement and there is zero space to mover between the rocky shore and the rocky island!
This fellow was the Oscarsborg base commander and close to retirement age.
Imagine the stress this old guy was going through!
Norway was not at war with anyone - but these ships, Blucher (brand new), Lutzow and Emden were moving at night without lights or any I.D. and trying to sneak past on their way to the capital - Oslo.
Hard call to make !
