Aoshima kit: Builds ship after leaving repairs from March 1941- being sunk in 1942. Previous Message
It depends on which version of the Exeter.
The Matchbox kit shows Exeter up to the Battle of River Plate in 1939. I built the kit and replaced the weapons with WEM 8" turrets, Pom Poms, 4" single mounts, and cranes.
The Aoshima kit represents the ship after being repaired following her action with Graf Spee until her loss off Java. The model has extra AA guns and twin 4" guns that are appropriate for the end of her service. You can't get the earlier version out of this kit. Previous Message
I have had the 1/700 Matchbox Exeter sitting on my shelf for years. I know Aoshima has one and I'm quite sure it's a much better kit. My goal in building either one is for my own personal display and not for competition. Not looking for any particular time frame or fit and I would be adding some aftermarket parts. Would I be happy enough with the Matchbox kit or should I splurge for the upgrade?
