I built the Matchbox kit back in the day and it was one of their better ones but it doesn't compare to the Aoshima kit. I personally love their approach to 1/700. A simple, accurate kit that you can add to if you wish but don't have to if (like me!) your skills and patience are limited.
I also think she was a very fine looking ship, and I had an uncle at the River Plate (on Ajax) so I had to build her.

I have had the 1/700 Matchbox Exeter sitting on my shelf for years. I know Aoshima has one and I'm quite sure it's a much better kit. My goal in building either one is for my own personal display and not for competition. Not looking for any particular time frame or fit and I would be adding some aftermarket parts. Would I be happy enough with the Matchbox kit or should I splurge for the upgrade?
