Hi Bob,
I built the Matchbox Duke of York. It's a poor kit with little detail as you would expect from the era it was made.
If you have the cash I'd buy the Aoshima kit. I've just about completed its first attempt at Dorsetshire, and although the kit has issues it looks pretty good. I think Aoshima's Exeter would be the same.

I have had the 1/700 Matchbox Exeter sitting on my shelf for years. I know Aoshima has one and I'm quite sure it's a much better kit. My goal in building either one is for my own personal display and not for competition. Not looking for any particular time frame or fit and I would be adding some aftermarket parts. Would I be happy enough with the Matchbox kit or should I splurge for the upgrade?
