that is what I was looking for in an answer!
I always like building my ships with the lower hull with rudders & screws...I'm just one of those people that like a Complete Ship.
For me, making a diorama, I have in my JMSDF ships that I have built, with a 'detachable' lower hull, so if the day comes......Might happen soon....I Could display the ship in waterline.
But, as most people on this thread....says that Tom's Modelworks HORNET upper hull "looks" correct in shape and scale.
I guess in my confusing question to all, Not my intention at all, is simply get 'Tom's' hull, and place Trumpeter lower hull for a 'complete model' that I could detach (not glue down, but support) to make a diorama. BUT!! If the lower hull looks are not appropriate, then I Will not use the Trumpeter lower to Tom's upper.
Thanks for the clarification, Ralph, I hope I didn't confuse you Too much about my stepping into this thread.
Not certain I understand your question, Mario, since the whole point of getting a Tom's hull is to replace the poorly done Trumpeter hull. Fitting the poorly done Trumpeter lower hull to the new Tom's upper then totally defeats the purpose...you are essentially putting back what you sought to correct/replace in the first place. So, the question seems odd.
If you meant using the Trumpeter lower hull on the Tamiya upper, it is still an odd question. The Trumpeter Hornet kit's hull--upper and lower--are "notoriously" horribly shaped. Far too blunt, and the lower hull is missing the bulbous forefoot. It is considered so badly done that Tom's released an entirely new upper hull to correct it.
So...no...you "can't" (don't really want to) use the Trumpeter lower hull for anything... (If you see what I mean.) It is the object you are trying to avoid with all this aftermarket stuff in the first place. Additionally, since the Tamiya kit is under scale, the Trumpeter lower hull will not fit the Tamiya kit; it will be too large.
since there are questions/answers about the Tom's HORNET kit, it is waterline, but does Trumpeter have a Lower Hull and can you use Trumpeter hull??
Thanks for your time.
i was going to get a Tamiya USS HORNET in 1:700 off of Facebook's Market Place for $15 ... but - I backed out of the deal. I decided to get a Hasegawa F-9F off Amazon, and decals for it off Ebay...
But, f I ever decide to get the HORNET, could I have it built NOT as the Dolittle Raid HORNET ... Could I have it built as the Midway HORNET?
How was she armed during that battle?
