Re: What was the name of the USS Coral Sea?
Let's not forget the USS MIDWAY (CVB-41). The CVE-63 was named MIDWAY after carrying the name CHAPIN BAY. Then renamed ST.LO in Oct. 1944, lost at Leyte Gulf on 10/25/44.
Yea I know, I mean what was it's name before it was the Coral Sea? The first Coral Sea Was renamed as USS Franklin D Roosevelt soon after it was launched, then the next ship in line was named the Coral Sea. The keel was laid in 1943 and it had to be named something before it was the Coral Sea but duck duck go as I might, all anybody talks about is how the first Coral Sea was renamed the FDR, not what the ship's name was before it became the Coral Sea. Must be a big state secret or something.
