Neither kit is mine. Had the Atlantis years ago and that's when I discovered the profile and beam problem.
The second picture is of a paper model by JSC.
Two very nice built kits on display tomcervo, thanks for posting them.
The Aurora kit isn't actually bad is it, at least not the way you've built and finished it, the exaggerated beam really alters things but probably the direct profile from either side would look quite good.
Please give some details to the superb 1/700 kit. I know NNT* do the Kormoran and HP the Pinguin, where is your Atlantis from?
* I recently purchased a hard-to-get-a-hold-of Kormoran from Ralf Schuster at NNT. They are oop and Ralf did some really heavy lifting to find me one from one of his contacts at retail and get it to me during this mad postal crisis. Ralf Schuster @ NNT, good trader and highly recommended.
They had little to go on--a recognition silhouette and some pictures in Life --and when you look at one in profile and waterlined, it has a resemblance to the real thing.
But the beam was determined apparently by the need to put an Arado 196 in a hatch with the wings spread, distorting the entire proportions of the model compared to the real ship.
Hatch #2 hides the Arado.
And a real model.
