This is just from a 70+ year memory but didn't revell introduce the USS Essex at about a 1/540 scale in the very late 50's or early 60's? I thought that was a reasonably accurate model for its time.
Lindberg got somewhat close, no cigar.
Revell's 1/426 (?) Arizona is accurate but for the "pill box" 5" casemate guns. The Yorktown isn't bad. The 1/72 PT 109 isn't too bad.
I'd give the award to Tamiya for coming out with the 1/350 battleships some years past.
