The Aurora Yamato set me off on a lifetimes' interest in IJN ships.
So many choices, most of which are proud Aurora products. Aurora was located in West Hempstead, New York, on Long Island in Nassau County, just east of NYC. It appears that the Aurora kit designers would go into the city, get boozed up and then design a new Aurora kit. The Aurora USS Halford claims that it is a Fletcher Class destroyer with seaplane. However, the contents of the box had a ship with four twin gun 5-inch gun turrets, a catapult with seaplane and a somewhat Gearing looking superstructure. Apparently, neither the Fletcher Class nor the Gearing Class had everything that the Aurora designers wanted while wearing their beer goggles, so they mashed the two designs together and added more absurdities on mere Whimsey. However, I did and still do love those Aurora kits. Well before Airfix kits appeared in my town, if you wanted a model of a non-USN ship, Aurora was the only game in town.
