Thank you, Tracy, for the review. I'll checkout your WIP and follow along.
I'd like to know what you think about the Type 055 kit as well.
Just in case you missed my other reply, here it is again:
First let me start by saying it's definitely buildable and I'm generally positive on the kit. I have a WIP here although I've been busy enough at work that I haven't been able to make measurable progress in a couple of weeks (not likely to change until Mid October at this point).
My short summary is "win some, lose some." The upper hull/superstructure is very slide molded, so there are less parts to have to assemble on it, however this leads to some softer detail in some areas (watertight doors for example). Fit is OK, but there is some test fitting and work needed. Minor sink marks on the bow. So far I've had to remove one locating "pin" from the lower/upper hull joint as it prevented a good fit, but I haven't finished this area yet.
I have got the forward weapons done and can say that the 130mm gun barrel was extremely fragile and there doesn't appear to be a brass replacement. The PJ-11 CIWS alignment shaft was curved, but I suspect that cutting most of it off will resolve the issue. Those are the points I'm planning on finishing and talking about on my next post on MWS.
