Re: I agree, a very nice kit.
That's great to hear about the Kent and Norfolk. I was a little disappointed by their Dorsetshire kit - rather sparse with detail and fit was just OK. Seems like Aoshima put their "A" team on developing the Exeter.
I went into the Exeter kit with the expectation of the quality of the Dorsetshire and have been very pleasantly surprised. Highly recommended.
I normally prefer to build models of ships that survived the war but I had to have the Exeter as she's such a good looking ship and I had an uncle at the River Plate (on Ajax). The Aoshima kit is very nice and I for one prefer their simpler, cleaner style of kit than the over complicated, thousands of parts and covered in P.E. favoured by some companies. It convinced me to build their Kent and Norfolk which were equally nice.
I'm building my second mostly out of the box build - the Aoshima HMS Exeter w/bits (cranes, catapults, radar) from the Aoshima Exeter set - to get my modeling juices flowing again....
I've got to admit it's a pretty darn good kit. Fit is excellent and detail is much better than the Aoshima Dorsetshire kit I just finished. Scrape/sand off those rings around the funnels and the kit is a little gem.
I'll post some pics later.
Just my .35 on the kit
