I would suggest if you're going to use the heat method to straighten the masts, to plunge into very cold water after, to "fix" the new shape. However, if the resin (or styrene) masts flex too much, I sometimes replace them with brass. It would be worthwhile for resin manufacturers to embed steel or brass rod inside the resin mast casting. Probably cost more, but might be worth it.
Have a couple of resin warship model kits with resin masts. They are bent or not straight. What is the recommended fix (other than brass rod)? Boil in water then try to straighten?
